What are you reading this summer?

Since I started staying home in May, my girls and I have made  a weekly trek to our local public  library,  here’s our picks for this week:

My girls have been on a Beatrix Potter adventure:

  • The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck
  • Appley Dapply’s Nursery Rhymes
  • The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin

Also, here is our weekly selection from the Virginia Readers’ Choice for Primary Grades.  As part of her summer home schooling work, my oldest daughter answers questions and draws pictures about these books along with phonics, math, and reading her Bob Books.

  • Katie Loves the Kittens by John Himmelman
  • Rhyming Dust Bunnies by Jan Thomas
  • Dog and Bear by Laura Vaccaro Singer
  • Duck! Rabbit! by Amy Krouse Rosenthal & Tom Litchtenheld

As for me, this summer I decided to read the Chronicles of Narnia as an adult:

  • The Magician’s Nephew by C.S. Lewis
  • Roar: A Christian Family Guide  Chronicles of Narnia by Heather & David Kopp

And something completely different for me:

  • The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz

So now it’s your turn, what are you reading this week?  this summer?

Uh oh, you’re in for it. Ask a librarian what she’s reading and be prepared – – –

A new (to me) author, Dana Stabenow, whose books come highly recommended by another favorite author, Diana Gabaldon (Outlander series). Stabenow writes mysteries set in Alaska. She has two series, starring two different investigators. Right now I’m reading through the Liam Campbell series. Quite good, not too easy to guess the bad guy, snall enough that I can keep one in my purse for “found” reading time.

For your girls–I have to recommended a former Virginia Reader’s Choice Primary book–Guji, Guji. (you’ll love it too–think adoption)

Up on deck for me, it came yesterday–To Defy a King, by Elizabeth Chadwick. Chadwick writes very good historicals (medieval England)–my requirements–well researched, true to the historical facts, well written, and interesting! (DH will be away for a 4 day trip and I plan this to keep me company)

Love seeing this pic of you and the girls reading. So prescious!
When my two oldest were little we discovered a book”Froggy Gets dressed” by Jonathan London . There is a whole series of these books. Great ,full of humor stories with cute pictures. I still read them to Gabi and we all enjoy them.
As for me I’m reading “Two girls from Gettysburg” by Lisa Klein”. A novel about frienship, love and Civil War. Easy, great reading/for me at least/.
Another book I started reading is “Love in the Driest Season” by Neely Tucker. It is a family memoir about adoption in Africa.
    Happy reading!
