Moms’ 30 Minute Blog Challenge

This Tuesday, I decided to take up Jamie at Steady Mom on the 30 minute blog challenge.  Every Tuesday, Jamie writes, edits and publishes her post in 30 minutes and invites other Moms to do the same!  This is a big challenge for me, because I NEVER to anything fast and I am a rookie at this blogging gig!  So here goes nothing…

Bumble Bee will be three years old in two weeks time, and she has definite ideas about her birthday.  First, she has requested Princess gummies, and then decided on a “Purple Princess Pizza Party”. With the help of her sister, she has chosen an outfit for the event, more on that later. For her cake, she would like chocolate with purple frosting.  How does one make purple frosting?

Yesterday, I sent the evites out. The guest list is just family, but we have a large family, so we are talking  2o people. Does anyone have a good pizza crust recipe?  How about any low-cost party decorations and favors?    I am going to attempt to make a castle cake with lavender frosting to satisfy my purple girl.  This should prove an interesting birthday party, photos to follow.

Okay, my 30 minutes are up!  Maybe I will get better at this!

I can NEVER write a blog in 30 minutes! Last Friday’s post took me all morning. I think I take so long because I’m terrible about adding too many links into my posts–I have to pull up the page, copy and paste the url, add the link, etc. Photos always take a while, too, having to find them, post them, and then move them around to where I want them. I might just try this; although I might not get to it until tonight. Thanks for the challenge! 🙂

Your daughter sounds like mine. How fun! Just imagine how the parties will be in a few years. 🙂

The best way to make purple frosting is to get purple food coloring at Michael’s or a similar craft store (or a real cake decorating store, if such exists near you).

I like the basic Artisan bread in 5 Minutes a Day recipe for easy pizza crust. Actually, I love that book for about a million reasons, but the ability to make pizza is definitely one of the reasons.

BTW, I’m looking forward to seeing the pictures, especially the cake! 😀

Post writing sure does take a big chunk of time. I can’t do the seven days a week gig. My posts are usually way too long, I think. Maybe 30 minutes would keep things more concise.
As to purple, I second the Michael’s suggestion. Do not assume you can get a good purple from simple food coloring red + blue= purple. Not so. It = gray.
Make sure and take pix of the cake! My 2 yr old g-d E is already talking about her (Oct) b-day cake. She wants Elmo cupcakes, just like last year. I tried to talk her into Abby Cadabby, but, nope, she wants her old friend Elmo!

  6. I love that you used e-vites! How very “green” of you. 🙂
We keep our birthday parties really simple these days. If we do it at the park or pool, balloons are pretty much it. At home, I just pull things from around the house and use them in creative ways to make it fit the child’s party. As far as favors, we stay clear from plastic junkies that get thrown out almost immediately and opt for a few eco-friendly art supplies instead.

I’m stopping by through Steady Mom’s 30 Minute Challenge. I hope you’ll do the same! You can find me @

Hm, 30 minutes? Not sure how possible that is. One needs really good typing speed, and even then, how about thinking time? Often, I do get a short post done in that amount of time, but sometimes the content requires more time and length. I think I will refrain from setting time limits on myself. (Even as a teacher, I did not like to set time restraints on students taking quizzes and tests.) Of course, if I could hold everything to 30 minutes, I might have time to do more…hm…
